LDA and Urban Unit to join hands to devise Commercialization Policy for Lahore City

Director General Lahore Development Authority Ms. Amna Imran presided over a senior level meeting of LDA directors and Urban Unit senior technical team, Sr Officials of WASA Lahore and TEPA here at the office of the Urban Unit. The meeting was held to review and analyze the Land use Rules for Lahore city while focusing on the need to design and implement a Master Plan for Lahore, Commercialization Policy for the city, Survey Methodology for the Commercialization Policy Formation, identification of loopholes in current planning of Lahore and ideas to enhance the capacity of LDA personnel for creative and innovative city planning.

The meeting was attended by directors, town planners and engineers from the LDA whereas Urban Unit was represented by the COO Mr. Abid Hussainy and senior team of Urban Planning, GIS, Legal, Monitoring & Evaluation and Communication experts. The main objective was to devise a roadmap for both LDA and Urban Unit to manage and regulate land use conversion in Lahore city to provide a livable, economic and sustainable environment for the residents, while mitigating negative impacts of commercialization. The Urban Unit has already carried out survey on Commercialization Policy, and based on the survey of selected roads/areas and data available, the assessment report has been prepared and shared with DG LDA and her team. The report will be further amended as per feedback from LDA for final draft preparation and submission.

“With the given resources, strengths and a powerful backing by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, it is high time we come up with an integrated master plan for Lahore city ensuring revision and redrafting of land use rules, building and zoning regulations while abolishing the provision of temporary commercialization in the long run. We are pondering over chances to work jointly with Urban Unit as their homework and team of experts matches our mandate in many a ways. We will work on devising an effective and efficient Communication Strategy and Public Information Plan to keep the citizens updated of our initiatives,” said Ms. Amna Imran after the meeting.

In the same context, a grand meeting of surveyors is held tomorrow in Doongi Ground of M M Alam Road. A number of surveyors, policy makers, urban planners and architects will be participating in the meeting.
