  • Urban Unit to Work on 23 Landfill Sites, Aleem Khan


    The senior team of the Urban Unit presented on Solid Waste Management, Plantation and WASA issues’ sustainable solutions to the Senior Minister Local Government and Community Development Department, Mr. Abdul Aleem Khan in his office. Dr. Kiran Farhan, Sr. Solid Waste Management Specialist suggested 23 landfill sites across Punjab for further homework to which the minister has agreed while directing her team to present a complete feasibility plan with operations and cost analysis by next week. He asked to start with Gujranwala City as this will be model landfill site to be replicated in whole Punjab.


    Dr Basit Khan Sr. Specialist Information Technology presented dashboard options for operations and attendance monitoring of the SWM workers in Lahore and entire Punjab using Android Phone Systems. He also presented on Billion Trees Project with geo mapping and satellite imagery. The site identification, planted trees growth condition and suitability reports for various species of trees that can be helpful in achieving the given target by the Prime Minister. He showed the strength of Urban Unit in GIS and data integration which will be useful for effective monitoring of all government development interventions ad effective planning. 


    The Minister further asked the communication team of the Unit to prepare the Clean & Green Punjab Awareness Campaign for next meeting.  


    Ms. Memoona Arslan Sr. Specialist Communication and Mr. Naveed Ehsan, Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist form Urban Unit were also there in meeting. A delegation of Punjab Information Technology Board and Mr. Fazeel Asif, Chairperson- Chief Minister Task Force were also present in this meeting.
