Consultative Session with International Scholars in Urban over Education System Analysis for Rahim Yar Khan
The Urban Unit organised a consultative session with Dr. Farid Panjawani to get first hand review of the teaching and learning opportunities in district Rahim Yar Khan. Dr. Farid Panjwani is currently a Senior Lecturer and Director at the Centre for Research and Evaluation of Muslim Education Institute of Education, University of London.
This session was in the continuation of Finance Minister’s Meeting at Urban Unit in which he directed Urban Unit to do rapid analysis of the present structure of educational facilities in Rahim Yar Khan, in order to propose an integrated master plan for the district inclusive of infrastructure development, industrial zoning, connectivity measures and health overview, agriculture and environmental planning.
Mr. Abid Hussainy, Chief Operating Officer (acting) briefed Dr. Panjawani about work of Urban Unit regarding Social Sector, particularly Education. The team presented on Punjab Spatial Strategy (PSS), especially the work done on “Social Progress” plan for upcoming visit of Rahim Yar Khan regarding ground realities of data for District Development Plan, Urban Unit’s GIS based initiatives/tools for data collection and data-driven policy making.
Dr. Panjwani appreciated the work of Urban Unit and shared his experiences with the participants. He suggested that Urban Unit team visiting Rahim Yar Khan should also consider the indicators like teachers’ qualification, parental qualification and the number and quality of trainings received by the teachers. Dr. Panjwani highlighted the concept of 3-Cs in education i.e. Caring, Critique and Creativity – saying that education system build these three qualities. He further emphasized on the concepts of school leadership, hidden curriculum, role of non-profit private sectors (NGOs) and dual-language schooling.
